7,000 shoeboxes will bring
joy and smiles
This year, we are launching Shoebox gift campaign again, with the heartfelt goal of bringing joy, warmth, and smiles to those who need it most — children, families, and individuals facing poverty, challenging life circumstances, and isolation. The gift boxes are coming from the United Kingdom, packed and organized by Blythswood. Throughout the year, many donors and hundreds of volunteers contribute by collecting items and preparing the boxes, and we, as the local partner, Blythswood Serbia, ensure they reach communities in need and vulnerable groups.
We encourage you to watch the video, which is in Serbian and gives a glimpse of the atmosphere as the gift boxes are received and unloaded
Arkan’s Story
The Strength of Faith and Daily Struggles in Kragujevac
.jpeg)
Arkan is 50 years old and lives with his wife and five children – four sons and a daughter – in a modest home in one of Kragujevac’s neighborhoods. He is a proud grandfather of three grandsons and two granddaughters. For 44 years, he has been working at traffic lights, cleaning car windshields and relying on the kindness of passersby who reward him for his efforts, in order to provide for his family. His livelihood depends entirely on this work.
Previously, the family lived in an old shack, and now they rent an old house and regularly pay rent. Life is extremely difficult – the state social assistance of 18,000 dinars is not enough to cover the basic needs of a large family, while one of his children has undergone three major operations.
Arkan draws strength and hope from his faith. He was particularly touched by the Christian literature and testimonies he found in the Blythswood Shoebox, which brought him encouragement in difficult times. Spending up to 10 hours outdoors, often in the cold, he was especially grateful for the hat and scarf from the Shoebox, which help him stay warm throughout the long working day.
Thanks to Blythswood donors and partners, Arkan felt that his daily struggles were not forgotten and that someone, even from far away, cares about him and his family.
Rade’s Story
In the village of Ravna Reka, nestled among the hills and the quiet of rural Serbia, lives Grandpa Rade (77). A father of a son and a daughter, and a proud grandfather of six grandchildren. He spent almost his entire life – 48 years – working in the Resavica mine.
Today, with a small pension and after a recent surgery, daily life is not easy.
The family is large, and challenges are many. Their home needs repairs they currently cannot afford, and health concerns affect even the younger ones – one of his grandchildren recently underwent serious surgery. Yet, as Grandpa Rade says: “My grandchildren keep me alive, and my faith in God.”
In his shoebox, he also received Paul’s testimony, which encouraged him even more. His daughter works as a miner – a rare profession, but a testament to this family’s strength and resilience. Children from this remote village travel long distances to school every day, and life in rural conditions makes childhood even harder.
The gifts they received held a special meaning. Hats, gloves, and toys brought not only warmth but also smiles.
As they said themselves, they especially loved having something new, beautiful, and their very own. Small things mean a lot in difficult times. Christian hope reaches even the most remote homes.

FAMILY
MILOJEVIĆ

We visited the Milojević family from Kragujevac. We donated "shoebox" gifts and had the opportunity to talk with grandmother Svetlana and her grandchildren, Dimitrije, Lazar, and Luka.
The recipients rely on social assistance and live in difficult conditions. Their home is in quite poor shape, and they currently do not have enough resources for the urgently needed renovations. Mother Marija and grandmother Svetlana take on occasional jobs to help make life a little easier for their family.
Beyond the gifts and food we donate, it is always equally important for us to listen to the challenges that vulnerable families face, and, even for a moment, to encourage them through our presents and show our solidarity.
Every gift box carries love, kindness, and care for people in need. With this visit, we have officially concluded the distribution of gift boxes for this year. From December 2023 until today, thanks to the wonderful people from the United Kingdom and the organization Blythswood Care, in collaboration with our association Blythswood Serbia, 7,000 "shoebox" gifts have been donated across Serbia.
